Salsa Lessons

Beyond clichés of “hot” and “cool”, “sexy” or “suave”, Sincere Salsa is “Por el gusto!”: for the pleasure of it!  Sincere Salsa classes emphasize synergy between partners, proper technique, and having fun.

Beginner/Novice Level

Saturdays, 5:00-6:30pm — In drop-in this class we introduce the basics of Salsa rhythm, body movement, and partnering. Full explanations are given for each figure introduced, including a break-down for both lead and follow. Solo-work includes: music awareness, basic Salsa shines, proper technique when spinning or turning, and body awareness. Partner-work includes: cross-body lead variations, inside and outside turns, relating to the line (slot), and partner awareness. Basics of social dance etiquette are also discussed.

Intermediate/Improver Level

Saturdays, 6:30-7:30pmWe ask that students please consult us before attending this class. This drop-in class is intended for students confident in their basic partnering skills who have a strong sense of Salsa timing. Solo-work includes: music interpretation, extended Salsa shines, multiple spins and turns, and personal styling.  Partner-work generally involves extended turn patterns which explore the many ways dancers can relate to each other and to the line (slot).  Intermediate turn patterns often incorporate such figures as “Copa” steps, “grande” steps, “hammerlocks”, “hits”, swivels, over and under-rotated cross-body leads, multiple spins and turns, and simple dips.
