Group Classes

Group classes at Delaware House studio are a great way to get started with Latin dance in a fun and social atmosphere. View our schedule here or read our class descriptions below.

Level 1 Salsa: Beginner Partnering and Turns

Tuesdays, 7PM (drop-in, no registration required)

Level 1 classes are intended for beginners and less-experienced dancers. Each class works on basic footwork, timing, and rhythm as well as basic partnering concepts, turns, and combinations. Figures taught in Level 1 include the cross-body lead, right and left spot turns, and inside and outside progressive turns. It is recommended that students attend a minimum of four level one classes before moving to Level 2.


Level 2 Salsa: Beginner-Intermediate Shines and Turn Combos

Tuesdays, 8PM (drop-in, instructor consultation recommended)

Level 2 classes are intended for dancers with strong basic salsa skills. Students should have no difficulty staying on time with the music and should be able to lead and follow Level 1 figures with relative ease. Each class works on basic shines (solo footwork) and short turn combinations.


Level 3 Salsa: Intermediate Shines and Turn Patterns

Thursdays, 8PM (drop-in, instructor consultation recommended)

Thursday Level 3 salsa classes are intended for dancers with very strong beginner-intermediate salsa skills who want to improve their musicality and learn more challenging partner work. Students should have no difficulty staying on time with the music and should be able to lead and follow Levels 1 and 2 combinations with relative ease. Each class works on an extended shine (solo footwork) and turn pattern.


Weekend Workshops

Round-out your repertoire with weekend workshops! Workshops will be offered one or two Saturdays per month and will include various topics such as bachata, rueda de casino, salsa on2, and advanced partnering skills. Contact Betsy for more details.


Prices 

  • All drop-in group classes and workshops are $10/hour “pay-as-you-go” or $8/hour with a punch pass.
  • Class fees are charged per person.
  • Punch passes are $64 (good for 8 classes) and may be used towards any group class.
  • We accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards.

Notes

  • All classes are offered on a drop-in basis; no advance registration required. It is recommended that students consult with an instructor before attempting a level 2 or 3 salsa class.
  • No parter is required to attend class; dancers are encouraged to rotate partners during class.
  • Comfortable clothes are recommended. Shoes (or socks) that allow the dancer to spin and pivot are recommended. High-heels (no higher than 3″) are OK, but back-up shoes are recommended, just in case!
